Shoshiwa was appointed to the Illinois State Freight Advisory Council, Illinois Workforce Innovation Board’s Apprenticeship Committee, Illinois State Highway Toll Authority ECP Advisory Committee, CTA Red Line Restoration Advisory Committee, and Illinois State Apprenticeship Steering Committee to implement and execute strategies to transition adult, youth, dislocated and incumbent workers into the high-demand construction industry.

Shoshiwa started off as a carpenter rehabbing homes. After getting an offer to be an Assistant Project Manager on an $8.5 million dollar train station project, Shoshiwa was recruited to run the State of Illinois construction training program facilitating budgetary and financial control.
Shoshiwa Mabina was born in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania. Her mother, born in Little Rock, Arkansas, moved to Dar Es Salaam in the mid-60s to stay for 15 years, while changing her name to marrying Shoshiwa's father. Shoshiwa has 8 siblings in Tanzania. Shoshiwa's parents met when working for the Tanzanian Import-Export government office, while her mother was the secretary to the Ambassador and her father as the Financial Attaché. As an American born abroad, Shoshiwa was later brought to her mother's family's migrated home of Chicago, IL, where she now calls home.
